This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced transportation and warehousing professional who is ready to take the next step in their career to oversee the corporate warehousing and logistics operations for a dynamic and rapidly growing, world-class farming and fresh vegetable processing company headquartered in the San Joaquin Valley of California. The right candidate for this position will be responsible for the management of multiple warehouse sites and supply chain transportation throughout the United States for the Grimmway Farms family of companies.

Position Expectations Include:

  • Organize, manage and direct the work of a staff of over 500 warehouse associates in a fast paced environment to ensure all shipping and warehousing functions are effectively carried out to meet the customer service requirements of both internal and external customers.
  • Implement procedures to improve quality, productivity and efficiency of shipping teams in eight warehouses, across 3 states totaling over 750,000 square feet.
  • Evaluate and develop key productivity indicators (KPI’s) for all functions within the transportation and warehouse environments.
  • Maximize the performance of the warehouse management system (WMS) to ensure proper care, custody and control of inventory; productivity and space utilization (efficient product placement, etc.) and accuracy of inventory counts.
  • Develop warehouse design by planning layout, product flow, and product handling systems; evaluating and recommending new equipment.
  • Negotiate with carriers across all shipping modes to build and strengthen Grimmway’s raw product and finished goods freight needs.
  • Manage corporate transportation operations including incoming raw product, equipment moves, interfacility shuttles and finished goods transport and delivery totally over $45MM in annual spending.
  • Recruit, train and develop supervisory and managerial level employees to allow for effective operations, continued company and departmental growth and succession planning.
  • Participate in warehousing and distribution industry benchmarking in order to bring new ideas and insight to current practices.
  • Build inter-departmental relationships fostering a collaborative approach in supporting the warehousing, procurement, production, sales and farming teams.

Job Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the supply chain, warehousing and transportation field.
  • BA/BS degree in a related field of study, or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous experience fresh produce a plus.
  • Robust documentation, organizational and communication skills are crucial.
  • Extensive contract management and negotiation skills.
  • Experience and contacts within the refrigerated transportation modes, especially ‘over the road trucking’.
  • Strong presentation skills – ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven knowledge of health and safety laws, standards and regulations related to warehousing activities.
  • Knowledge and experience within automated Warehouse Management Systems.
  • Willingness and ability to travel when required.
