Cal-Organic has been dedicated to organic farming and maintaining a balance with nature for over 25 years. As one of the only farms in California's Southern San Joaquin Valley to convert to organic agriculture, we are very proud of our decisions and our rich farming heritage. Cal-Organic applies its values on its organic farms throughout California. Bringing you year-round supplies and dedicated service. Always farming with "Pride and Integrity".

History

Back in 1968 when Bob and Rod Grimm set up their first roadside produce stand, the brothers made a promise to always take care of the customers. More then 3 decades later we are still honoring that promise. That has never been more evident than with Grimmway Farms organic division Cal-Organic.

Starting with a quarter acre of lettuce back in 1983 and an idea of doing things differently, they have taken the business to include 60 different year-round vegetable items. Today the business has grown to thousands of certified organic acres. It still remains family owned and operated, while promoting family values and integrity everyday. Working hard to provide personal service and finding solutions for your needs and constantly advancing the technology of organic agriculture to the highest levels.

Our headquarters are located in Lamont California at the southern most end of the pristine San Joaquin Valley, 15 miles southeast of the city of Bakersfield. The San Joaquin Valley is known as one of the world's premier agricultural growing regions. The bounty of sun and good weather in Lamont allows us to continue the tradition of quality that we are known for.

We also farm in some of the most beautiful and richest soils outside of the San Joaquin Valley, to help us provide you with year-round supplies. The areas that we grow include the Tehachapi Mountains, Antelope Valley as well as the Coachella and Imperial Valleys.

We go to great lengths to produce the best quality products for you and your family - including those requesting or requiring special consideration for kosher and organic offerings. Our customers are the reason we're here, and we are always working to develop innovative ways to satisfy your needs.

Organic

Cal-Organic Farms refers to methods of growing and processing foods that rely on the earth's natural resources. Pests and weeds are managed using earth-friendly means such as beneficial insects and mechanical controls. Cal-Organic Farms produce is grown without the use of pesticides, fertilizers, herbicides or fumigants. Cal-Organic Farms produce is never genetically engineered or modified, and is never irradiated.

Products labeled "certified organic" have been grown and processed according to strict standards. California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) annually inspects farms and facilities to ensure that no harmful chemicals have been used for at least three years, that foods are processed using sustainable methods, and that growers and processors keep detailed records of their practices.

Safety

Cal-Organic Farms knows it is important for you and your family to be confident in the safety of the produce you serve and consume. Our safety standards are among the highest in the industry. We work continuously for your safety in applying Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). This entails monthly self audits with annual third party audits. We evaluate the areas around and on our farm that could lead to possible contamination of our products. We monitor all applications made to our crops before the first seeds are sown to the last weed hoed. Your safety and confidence are of the utmost importance to us!

The safety standards of Cal-Organic are among the highest in the industry. One way we work for your safety is applying Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP- pronounced "hassip"). The FDA adopted this food safety program 30 years ago during the astronaut program focusing on preventing hazards that could cause food-born illnesses by applying science based controls. Cal-Organic has a HACCP program in place for you to identify potential hazards in the handling of our food. Some of the ways we do this is by analyzing the potential hazards associated with all foods, identifying critical control points in the foods production, and establishing extensive preventive measures to control all aspects of our production. We have effective record keeping to document our HACCP system. These include records of potential hazards and its control methods, the monitoring of safety requirements, and the actions taken to correct potential problems.
