Kosher
"Kosher", in Hebrew, means fit or proper, and is generally used to describe foods that are prepared in accordance with special Jewish dietary laws. All fruits and vegetables are considered kosher and may be eaten freely with either dairy or meat. When produce is harvested, however, some non-kosher elements could conceivably be harvested with the produce. The kosher consumer is careful to eliminate any of these unwelcome elements.

Grimmway Farms has received kosher certification from the Orthodox Union (OU) in New York. All of our processed carrots to including: baby carrots, carrot sticks, shredded carrots, and carrot chips are kosher certified. The OU kosher supervision label is the world's most recognized kosher symbol and can be found on nearly 250,000 products in 68 countries around the globe.

The Orthodox Union inspects our facilities regularly and kosher monitoring systems are set up and monitored by our Quality Assurance Division. For more information about the Orthodox Union, visit their website at http://www.ou.org.

USDA National Organic Standards
Organic production has been practiced in the United States since the late 1940s. From that time, the industry has grown from experimental garden plots to farms with surplus products to sell under a special "organic" label. Food manufacturers have developed organic processed products, and many retail marketing chains specialize in the sale of "organic" products. This growth stimulated a need for verification that products are indeed produced according to certain standards. Thus, the organic certification industry also evolved. By the late 1980's, after an attempt to develop a consensus of production and certification standards, the organic industry petitioned Congress to draft the Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA) defining "organic".

Congress passed the Act to: (1) establish national standards governing the marketing of certain agricultural products as organically produced products; (2) assure consumers that organically produced products meet a consistent standard; and (3) facilitate commerce in fresh and processed food that is organically produced.
