Grimmway Farms to Streamline Carrot Operations in Kern County

Mountain View Facility to Operate on Seasonal Production Schedule

BAKERSFIELD, CA, May 3, 2018 – Grimmway Farms today announced that it will streamline carrot processing operations in Kern County. Effective July 6, 2018, the company will run its Mountain View facility on a seasonal basis. The adjustment in production schedule is in response to new technologies and improved output at the company’s Premier facility in Shafter.

As part of the shift in capacity, the Mountain View facility operations will shut down seasonally from July 6 through October 7, during which time carrot production will be increased at the Premier facility. The consolidation in operations will leverage improved automation processes and improve production efficiency. These changes will not impact customer deliveries.

The shift of Mountain View operations to a seasonal production model will result in the temporary layoff or reassignment of approximately 185 production employees. Approximately 55 employees will be offered the opportunity to transfer to similar positions at the Premier facility for the summer season. The remaining 190 Mountain View employees that do not work in carrot production will not be affected.
